PCOTY for the rest of us. Who ya got? I was surprised by the results, but if you read the whole article, it looks like the voting was very split, with the 5th place finisher getting at least 1 place vote. Spoilers in the comments!

I really enjoyed my test drive in the new Miata, and prefer its styling (and motor, as do most reviewers, it seems like) to the Fiat. I wonder what aftermarket suspension would be most similar to what the Abarth’s got going on...

No link to the article? Gotta go with the RS in this comparo, assuming cost is ignored.

Yeah I was really intrigued because of that review. I didnt know about the suspension in the Abarth. A shame that engine turned out to be such a turd. I really liked my ND test drive (on an autox course) since it really felt exactly like my NB but with more power.

Correct. If you can’t afford at least a 911 Turbo S than what’s the fucking point. Maybe you should get to work earning money.

To be fair, it’s an AWD hatch in a sea of RWD sports cars.

And at the end of the day it’s a $35,000 Focus

There’s a reason Hammond reviewed the 124 last week and not Clarkson. I imagine it’s a great car, but it isn’t for tall people, so it isn’t for me. Also sure there are a lot of butthurt Focus fans after that article.

I frankly don’t think Fiata getting the #1 spot is surprising. I test drove a 124 Lusso and a Miata and thought both were great. But I kept thinking about how much better the Abarth probably sounded.

That said, I’d rather have the RS than the 124 and 86, if I had to choose between those three.

If I had to choose between those three I’d question how my life led me to that point.

I guess if you really wanted to pay for it, you could replace the ND’s suspension with the Abarth’s. Something to be said about having a nice, supple suspension on a car you drive a lot, though.

I am sure the Flyin Miata solution has ought to be just as good, if not better. After market is always the way to go with Miatas anyways. But I really like what FM did for NA/NB in terms of performance/price/comfort balance. So I imagine they would have an excellent setup for the ND. Between that and the the BRZ/86 though, I probably would not choose the Miata.

I still need to get a test drive in a BRZ.

Yes, definitely. I immediately noticed the terrible Prius tires but I just liked how modern the car felt and how much more space there was. This was in addition to it handling in the same fun way my Miata does. And since I drive a Miata, I obviously had no perception of the FRS being slow lol. Although I am not sure if comparing cars 14 years apart is really a fair fight haha.

With the top up? Is it comfortable at all?

Yes, top up. I took a decently long test drive and honestly didn’t feel too cramped. My knees were pretty close to the steering wheel, though (34" inseam). I was able to look straight out the windshield, which I felt like I couldn’t do in the NC (top of the windshield was obstructing my view out).

The 86s are definitely much more usable as a transportation device than any Miata is.

Eh there are ups and downs of both. When creative, I can fit a lot of stuff in/on my Miata. Particularly oblong objects like my skis. Sure, my skis could fit inside of an 86 with the back seat down but that might get in the way of my elbow or the passenger. And a ski rack seems like it would be difficult with the curved roof. But the luggage rack on my Miata makes skis a piece of cake. I do wonder if 4 wheels with tires fit in the back of an 86, then that would change my tune.

I think the cargo space was intentionally designed to allow for that...
